Check out these adorable shots taken by Kortnee Kate Photography for a stylized shoot! How cute would this be for engagement pictures?! Break out of the 'normal' engagement shoots and do something that you are your fiance love! No more picturesque park settings! {unless you guys are totally into that and then by all means, park away!}

Princess Party {NWR}
So I'm working on my niece's third birthday and I just had to share my inspiration board for the party. To my delight she switched from wanting 'sonic the hedgehog' to a Princess party - I'm so psyched. The party is at the end of the month so I'll be sure to post pics of how everything came together. I'm sure you'll be waiting with baited breathe ;)
{I'm so bad at remembering where I pulled pics - I know I got several from TomKat Studio's uber-fabulous blog - check it out!}

My love...
Ok kids settle in...story time again! And it's WAY long! But a pretty good story....

We moved back to Cincy, got our first apartment in Hyde Park {seriously so small - how did we do that?!} and got started with our life together. 2 years later Rick proposes on New Year's Eve at my sister's house. And we have it on video. Love it. Then I proceeded to call all my sorority sisters and yell at a crazy loud voice - WE'RE ENGAGED!!!! 2 years after that, on September 2, 2006 we *finally* got married.

Some of you may or may not know the story of us. But seeing as it's our 3rd Year Anniversary today {!!!!} I thought I would share our story with you. Plus you all bless us with the opportunity to be a part of one of the most important days of your lives - here's a little of mine ;)
Many many years ago {16 to be exact} a young girl walked into a classroom for the first day of 6th grade at a new school. Sitting in this class was a boy who was immediately smitten with the 'new girl'. Pretty soon they were sitting next to each other and passing notes back and forth and running from each other on the playground. The boy finally had the courage to ask the girl to be his girlfriend and she said yes!
Meet the boy and girl: Kristen & Rick; me & my love.

The school year went on and they were the 'it' couple. {OK switching tenses now...} We had dates at the roller-skating rink and Rick even gave me a beautiful ID bracelet and monogrammed necklace. Several months later, like most 6th graders, I decided it was time to move on and chase another boy. So I did what every other kid does - I had my best friend call Rick and dump him. I even refused to talk to him. Hey - I was 13!!!

Well apparently Rick was deep in puppy love and this crushed his little heart. From that moment on he refused to talk to me. Years went by - we both had serious relationships in high school with other people - and we literally did not speak. In fact, I'm not sure we even looked at each other. Then one day before senior year my friend had the random idea to stop over at Rick's to say hi. I figured sure - why not - and bounced up to his doorstep. And I was smitten. I mean smmmiiitttteeeennn. He drove me home that night and his dad had to come jump the car due to the amount of time we spent talking with the door open. The year went on and we became the best of friends. But I was already so in love with him. I remember turning to my friend in homeroom and saying {and I quote} "I'm going to marry him someday" and she replied - your crazy! Your not even dating him!! Details....
Here we are at our senior prom:

Now it was Rick's turn to break my heart - like most boys he didn't want to head off to college with a girlfriend. Duh. So we head off to college as friends {with a spark} and meet up whenever we're home. But nothing more. Sophomore year comes along and I tell myself I'm over him and start talking to other boys. Then a tragedy hit and we lost someone very close to both of us. Rick calls {after not speaking for months} and proceeds to tell me he's made all the arrangements and to meet him at his house. I remember it so clear - I walked into his house, he came running {ok not running...walking swiftly maybe} and gives me the biggest hug. I can't describe how it felt but at that moment we knew we were meant to be together. We ended up going to diner with his dad and my mom and his dad tells her "Kristen is lucky Rick is giving her another chance. She really broke his heart in 6th grade". I mean really? Good god we we're 13!!!!
So from that moment on it's been Rick & Kristen, Kristen & Rick. After 2 looong years of a distance relationship we both finally graduated.
We moved back to Cincy, got our first apartment in Hyde Park {seriously so small - how did we do that?!} and got started with our life together. 2 years later Rick proposes on New Year's Eve at my sister's house. And now for your viewing pleasure, some pics from our wedding at Ivy Hills Country Club. Shot by {you got it!} Kortnee Kate {nee Simply Timeless Photography} If your still even reading....

{One of my all-time favorite pictures}

{It's important to have a good time at your wedding!!}
And that's us! We drive each other crazy but he's the love of my life. Thanks for entertaining me and reading about us!

And Bon Anniversaire my love! xoxo

Help a pup out!
A re-post from our fabulous photog, Kortnee Miller {Simply Timeless Photography}. We totally need to find this pup a home. Please contact me or Kortnee if your interested.
Most of you who know me know that I am a dog lover. I come from a long line of dog lovers. Growing up my mom would take in all sorts of stray animals and they would spend their days on our five acres out in the wide open. So many of my childhood photos are with animals…riding dogs, chasing cats, feeding birds…you name it.
The other day I was driving down a four lane busy street when I saw this little brown dog running between all the cars. I actually cringed when he dogged to miss the last car before making it to the sidewalk. I of course pulled over, chased him down the sidewalk and put him in my car. As soon as I put him in the car, he sat politely in the back seat, stuck his nose out the window and sat quietly enjoying the breeze that blew his cute little ears back all the way home.
I have had him now for a few weeks, looking for a fabulous home for him. We would love to keep him but for many reasons are are not able to. So I decided to post him here on the blog! He is the sweetest little dog that wants to be loved and snuggled all day long. He is hilarious…he loves to talk to you! He also loves kids (Micah and him wrestle all the time!) and he is great with other dogs. He also LOVES to be outside and is super playful. He is not one of those dogs that has to be inside all the time to be happy. Many a day he is outside laying in the sun on a comfy grass spot and perfectly happy.
So, if you or anyone else is looking for a fabulous dog that needs a good home…please give us a call here at the studio… 513.807.3000 or you can email me at kortnee@kortnee.com. Oh, by the way, he is between 40 and 50 pounds and is house broken!
Look at this face….

Please please let us know if you know anyone searching for the perfect pup!

NWR - Beauty on the Brain
I know I know, another NWR post - but it's educating! And that makes it ok....at least in my eyes - if not, post and let me know and I'll keep it strictly WR! :)
I am shamelessly sharing this information from the fab 'faking good breeding' blog. I'm somewhat of a fashion/makeup junkie and loved this post so I wanted to share. The blog isn't active anymore but it has some great posts and I got lost in it for an hour. Thanks Meg for sharing your insight!
Beauty Industry: Who Owns What?
Aside from recognizing that they're all beauty brands, you probably don't often link Kiehl's, Maybelline and La Roche-Posay. Or Olay, Covergirl and SK-II. Or La Mer, MAC and Clinique. Each of these brands has a very clear, unique identity that is defined by what kind of products they make, where they're sold, how they're priced, what kind of person buys them, how they're packaged, and a number of other factors.
But that's only because the marketers behind these major brands have been so successful in conditioning consumers to think about the brand in these terms. What we're encouraged to ignore is that each of these brand groupings is owned by the same corporation. Kiehl's, Maybelline and La Roche-Posay couldn't be more different brands, but they're all owned and produced by L'Oreal. Same goes for Olay, Covergirl and SK-II, all Proctor & Gamble brands. And if you thought that Estee Lauder was only a department store makeup brand, you might be surprised to learn that the company owns 27 beauty brands, including La Mer, MAC and Clinique.
The beauty industry is dominated by a few key players, all multi-billion dollar corporations with ownership over multiple major brands. Here's how it breaks down:
L'Oreal: 2005 revenues of $19.78 billion U.S. dollars. Only owns cosmetics, haircare and fragrance brands (29 in total).
Brands: Kérastase, L'Oréal Professionnel, L'Oréal Technique, Matrix, Mizani, Redken, L'Oréal Paris, Garnier, Maybelline New York, SoftSheen-Carson, Biotherm, The Body Shop, Cacharel, Diesel Perfumes, Giorgio Armani Parfums and Cosmetics, Guy Laroche, Helena Rubinstein, Kiehl's, Lancôme, Paloma Picasso, Ralph Lauren, Shu Uemura, Victor et Rolf parfum, Dermablend, La Roche-Posay, SkinCeuticals, Vichy Laboratoires, Innéov, Ombrelle.
Proctor & Gamble: 2006 revenues of $68.222 billion U.S. dollars (this includes all brands). Beauty sales alone equaled $21.1 billion. P&G sells many different kinds of consumer products (their brands range from Tide to Gillette to Pampers to Iams to Tampax and many, many more). You can read the entire list here
Beauty brands: Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Olay, Pantene, Wella, Aussie, Clairol, CoverGirl, Herbal Essences, Infusium 23, Ivory Soap, Max Factor, Natural Instincts, Nice'n Easy, Noxzema, Secret, SK-II, Vidal Sassoon.
Estee Lauder: 2006 revenues of $6.746 billion U.S. dollars. Only sells cosmetics, haircare and fragrance products.
Brands: American Beauty, Aramis, Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and bumble, Clinique, Daisy Fuentes, Darphin, Donald Trump The Fragrance, Donna Karan, Estée Lauder, Flirt!, Good Skin, Grassroots, Jo Malone, Lab Series, La Mer, Kiton, MAC Cosmetics, Michael Kors, MISSONI, Origins, Prescriptives, Rodan and Fields, Sean John, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach Fragrances.
Unilever: 2006 revenus of $53.97 billion U.S. dollars. Sells food, beverage, cleaning and personal care consumer products.
Beauty brands: Caress, Degree, Dove, Lever 2000, Pond's, Suave, Sunsilk, Vaseline.
Johnson & Johnson: 2006 revenues of $53 billion U.S. dollars. Manufactures consumer packaged goods, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Beauty brands: Aveeno, Clean and Clear, Neutrogena.
Avon: 2006 revenues of $8.1 billion U.S. dollars. Sells cosmetics, fragrances and some clothing and jewelry.
Beauty brands: Avon Color, Anew and Solutions, Skin So Soft and Naturals, Avon Fragrances, mark.
Certainly there are other important corporations that stand alone, such as Revlon (2006 revenues of $1.33 billion). But when you consider just how many brands are controlled by a few companies, it's pretty mindboggling.
So what good is this information and how does it useful to you as a consumer?
I've always argued that the more you know about beauty products and the beauty industry, the smarter your purchases will be. When you consider that the huge team of people doing research and development for L'Oreal are developing formulas that can be used in Garnier shampoo ($3.99) and Kerastase shampoo ($29.99), you realize that it's a good idea to start comparing products at different price points. Often two products from two different brands will have the same patent number (Pantene and Herbal Essence conditioners, for example). The difference is in the non-active ingredients, which give it a unique texture, scent, color, etc.
To double check on this, I e-mailed my two favorite cosmetics scientists, The Beauty Brains. They said that major companies (like the ones I've listed above) often save money by using the same formulas in multiple brands, which allows them to get price breaks on raw materials. Sometimes companies will use more expensive or better active ingredients in their luxury brands (the fact that they're active ingredients is key... they can spend all the money they want on fancy extracts and organic ingredients, but they won't make a difference in how the product works), but the truth is that more expensive formulas do not cost companies much more to create.
The price comes from the fact that you expect to pay a high price for a luxury brand. Don't you often automatically assume that a gorgeous bottle of $60 eye cream sold at a Saks counter is going to work better than the $1.99 tube on the clearance rack at CVS? It's all psychological.
So before you go and splurge on an expensive product, take the time to compare it to a similar product from one of their sister brands. Usually an online store (like Drugstore.com) will list the ingredients. You can then check out a site like The Beauty Brains or cosmetics cop Paula's Begoun, who has an ingredient dictionary and reviews of products. Makeup Alley is also a great resource, as you can read tons of reviews or ask questions to the extremely knowledgeable message board posters.

A Little Help for a Good Cause

In 2005 we lost one of our very best friends, Kari to a car accident on I75. We (my family) have known her family since before my sister, I or Kari were born, thus we saw ourselves more as sisters than friends. Somehow fate brought us together and we attended Ohio University together. We tried to take as many classes together as we could and always ended up having to cram our final projects together in one night. But we were hanging out so the hard work didn't bother us so much. We both loved OU with a deep passion and said we would always give back to the university. (OU alumni are slightly proud of their university....).
Anyway, Kari and I both graduated in 2003, me with my history degree and Kari with a BFA in graphic design. You see Kari was a phenomenal artist. After graduation she landed a fabulous job and was quickly making a name for herself in the art world. She sold tons of paintings and had gallery openings in New York City. Words can't really explain how losing her felt and still feels like today. I don't think you ever get over losing a friend, a sister.
SO back to the real reason for this post! We held a benefit after Kari's death and established an art scholarship fund at OU in her name. This is where you come in! On January 20th (Kari's Birthday, she'd be turning 29) Barnes and Nobles are donating a portion of each book purchase to her scholarship fund if you give them this voucher number: 454033.
This voucher can be used at any Barnes and Nobles (not just Ohio!) so if you were planning on purchasing any books please please do it on January 20th (Tuesday) and give them the voucher number 454033. If you do please leave a comment so I can acknowledge you! Thanks for listening! And make sure you don't take what you have for granted, one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
Just for fun - some of her art. She loved working with mixed media:

My favorite: one of her earliest pieces but I fancy myself a bit of a princess so this speaks to me. The image served as the background for our Save the Dates. Yep dork. Oh well...

More information: About Kari, the Kari Rosenberg OU Scholarship Fund, some of Kari's Art.
See ya on the flip side - mad love.

NWR...Help!
As you all know (or you do if you read the 2 posts below...) my purse got stolen this weekend. So today's task is to decide which purse will replace it. I'm absolutely loving the new Coach Penelope line they just released! It reminds me of the days of getting all dressed up and riding a train to meet your one true love. So Casablanca...
Ok I'll get to the point. Basically I am stuck between the two below and I need your help deciding which one to purchase. Well wait, that's not entirely true. I already purchased option A but am now yearning for option B and need your assistance in choosing which one I keep.
Since I track my blog I now know there are tons of you readers out there so don't let me down!! You can either comment or click the poll to the right to have your opinion heard! I'll leave it open until 1/3/09, I have an apointment with my local Coach representative Sunday and must have an answer for her then :)
Vote Early and Vote Often! (bonus points to whoever knows what that's from..hint: history)
OPTION A:

12 1/2 (L) x 9 3/4 (H) x 4 3/4 (W)
OPTION B:

17 3/4 (L) x 12 (H) x 6 (W)
And just for good measure....how freakin' fabulous is this luggage?!! I'm so in love....

We're Baaackkk!
Hellooo! Well we've been back for a week and have been welcomed home with several days of snow - how appropriate! From the Jamaican sun to the Cincinnati Snow...gotta love that.
I promise to get back to the wedding world asap but I wanted to share a few pictures from our amazing trip. I 150% recommend it as your honeymoon destination! We stayed at the Grand Palladium - you an get a great price on Cheap Caribbean. Oh how I miss it.....
Our resort boasts the largest pool in Jamaica - the pic above is overlooking the infinity pool into the ocean.
The two photos above are the views from our villa. Breath-taking, huh?
More pool shots....there were also 4 other pools on the property that we didn't go to!
My version of the perfect postcard!
Yep, engagements and weddings follow me even on my vacation! Meet Melissa and Chris - we met them in the airport and became quick friends. Chris proposed the first night we were there - how romantic, huh?! This isn't an actual shot of the proposal but since none of there families were there we did an impromptu photo session. Wish we were in Chicago to help you two!
Outside our Villa
Our bedroom
The obligatory 'pic taken by us because no one else is there shot' (we have lots of these...)
We celebrated my Bday while we were there...how cute is this?
Happy Birthday to me!! Along with my fabulous new boots (see post below) my amazing husband greeted me with these beauties. mmmm.....
Back in the Natti! We celebrated in style with TC bride CC - I love my job!
To top off our vacation/birthday week the Bengals pulled off a win! So what if it's only the 2nd one this season?! True fans never waver :)
{{Meet Bo, Rick's best friend since junior high}}
So that wraps it up for me! I'll get back to weddings soon - hope I didn't bore you too much!
Happy Holidays!
