FP: Color Trends {Lemon} Inspiration

Here's our first color/designer post...Super Lemon as shown by Carmen Marc Valvo...

Here's my overall inspiration:

And here is my take - combining with the other it color of the season - Grey! I love how you can go a buttery yellow or kick it up to a bright level. You can find loads of inspiration by goggling {image search} 'yellow and grey wedding'. Love!

Or how about adding a shot of pink as shown on snippet and ink!

Or really go for it and add some purple:

Yellow is super hot for the spring but you could definitely pair it with a deep gray to make it a little more substantial for fall/winter.  Anyone out there using yellow as one of their colors?

For more yellow inspiration check out the yellow and black {one of my favs!} post here.

Whew that was a long post! Happy Weekend Everyone :)

FP: Spring Color Trends!

So if you keep up on the trends you know that the 'it' colors of the season have a lot to do with Patone's color reports and high fashion runways. I've been searching around for some '09-'10 inspiration and was pleasantly surprised when I checked Pantone's Spring '09 Fashion report. Love the colors!

Look out for the inspiration behind these colors from some of our favorite designers!

From the report:

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK, SEPTEMBER 5 12, 2008 Spring traditionally evokes a sense of freshness and new beginnings, with sprouting shoots and blossoming flowers that inspire designers to breakout of the winter doldrums. Bright colors return to the top 10 list for spring ’09, as designers incorporate vibrant pops into their collections, yet temper the vibrancy with deeper, translucent or neutral tones. “New York’s fashion designers encourage hopeful attitudes with lively colors, while sophisticated, grounded hues address the need for stability in times of economic uncertainty,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.

Fall ’08 saw blue and purple rise to the forefront of fashion. As is often true, colors evolve from season to season, and spring ’09 is no exception. Palace Blue, a favorite among designers this season, takes a steadfast, classic, spring navy-like tone and makes it sparkle. Paired with just about any color in the report, it offers many intriguing spring combinations.

Taking purple in a lighter direction, Lavender presents a softer, more summery hue, extending the mystical aspects of purple available last fall.

As yellow continues to make its mark on the world of fashion, tangy Super Lemon brings a fun, optimistic outlook to the palette. Its luminosity is determined to evoke a smile and attract the roving consumer’s eyes.

Taking a cue from its lemony neighbor, friendly and approachable Salmon Rose also conveys an optimistic outlook. The subtlest of oranges, Salmon Rose is flattering to most complexions and is beautiful with a summer glow.

Think sensual and seductive Fuchsia Red for clothing, as well as lipstick and nail polish selections, this spring. With its blue undertones, this cool red is a real show-stopper, adding a sense of elegance to the palette.
Stabilizing neutrals provide practicality in a changing economic landscape.

Not your average beige, Rose Dust breaks away from the typical neutrals associated with spring by adding dimension with subtle rose undertones.

And with its bluish-green undertones, cool Slate Gray is a nuanced neutral that can be paired with any of the other nine colors in the report.

Three greens, each with their own distinct personality, round out the color palette for spring ‘09, perpetuating the idea of freshness and renewal. Vibrant Green, the quintessential spring hue, brings a true verdancy to the palette in a time of revitalization. Dark Citron, a citrus-inspired green, is calmer and more serious than most, offering an element of sophistication to the mix. Reflective Lucite Green, a clean, clear subtle hue, adds a slight shimmer.

Meet the Vendors: Goodwin Lighting!

Introducing the fabulous lighting designers Glen and Vicki....

Name:
Glen Goodwin & Vicki Lipstreuer

Location: Lakeside Park, Northern Kentucky

Company Name: Goodwin Lighting

Type of Vendor: Lighting Design and Production Services

Number of Years in Business: since 1995
How did you get started in the wedding industry? We (Glen and Vick) both studied lighting design in college and trained in theatre and live performances. We began working in the special events industry designing for business meetings, corporate hospitality parties and weddings.

How did you pick your company name? We spent a lot of time working on a name and determined that “Goodwin” was a recognized name already in the marketplace and with other vender's. It was and still is synonymous with creativity, professionalism and excellent service.

If you had to start over what one thing would you do differently? We would start with a larger office and warehouse. It was amazing how quickly we outgrew our space.

What is your company philosophy? We provide the best possible, unique design for each event. No matter how large or small, each client receives the same professional service and attention.

What's one thing you want clients/vendors to know most about your services? That we are professional designers. This is not a hobby, but rather a passion to be the best at what we do. We are involved in over 400 events each year, of which some 250 are weddings. The best place to see the range of work is on our web site; goodwinlighting.com

Do you have any hidden talents or favorite hobbies? A hidden talent would be that we have become very good photographers. We often shoot our own work, as it is challenging getting good images in low light levels. When we get a chance, we like to fish, hike and enjoy a good bottle of wine.

What are your three favorite blogs besides The Tres Chic Bride? Unfortunately, we are too busy to spend a lot of time on blogs. Our ‘free’ time on the computer is spent reading industry forums and reviewing current lighting techniques and products. We try to stay current in our industry.

Thanks for the insight into the world of Goodwin! I am a 100% supporter of having a lighting design at receptions. I would seriously forgo all other design elements just to have lighting! It is the single thing that will completely transform a room. For an even bigger impact have the lighting change from early evening soft dinner lighting to a 'clubbier' {is that a word?!} lighting for a rockin' dance party.

Don't these pictures make you feel something about the rooms and the weddings? It's all in the lighting....

Bride's Choice Award!

We're so excited!!! I just found out that Tres Chic was recently selected as one of Wedding Wire's "Bride's Choice Award"!

From their site:
In its inaugural year, the Bride's Choice Awards recognizes vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride's Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds (brides and grooms) through surveys and reviews. Our winning vendors have set the bar high for this competition, demonstrating excellent service and expertise in their industry.
Congratulations to the 2009 winners!

This has been an amazing year for us here at TC, it was our first full 'all in' year and we're completely astonished at what we've accomplished. We have had the opportunity to work with such sweet and loving couples and phenomenal vendors. Rick and I never thought that this would be the type of company that would speak to our passions. When work doesn't feel like work, you know you've found something special and we've definitely found something special. We just want to thank everyone for welcoming us into the event planning world with open arms, we're truly blessed. Merci!! Lots of love to all :)

{that's probably to closest I'll ever get to giving an acceptance speech! Thanks for indulging me! haha}

FP - Guess the designer!

If you know me, or you have read the 'about' section of our website you know that I love fashion. It was {is} in the forefront of my mind as I develop my brand - it's who I am and something I try to bring into our events. I find such inspiration from it, on my days off I literally browse the mall for hours. Not to buy anything but just to see what's out there. Since fashion has played such a large role in Tres Chic I thought I should bring some fashion to the blog! So when I find something fabulous out there I'm going to share it with my lovely readers. We'll call them 'fashion passion' {FP} posts ;) What do you guys think? Interested? Let me know - I'd love some feedback!

Onto the first post....

Guess which classic American designer label is behind these lovelies.....

Figure it out yet?!

Give up? Are you ready to hear??
OK here it is... It's Liz Claiborne!!!

YES! The same designer that I always bypass because I don't want to look like a 40 year old mom {nothing wrong with that!! It's just that I'm not even 30 yet}. LC hired Tim Gunn {project runway} a couple of seasons ago and Isaac Mizrahi just left Target to be the head designer. What a fabulous team they have turned out to be! The first collection, Spring 2009, was just released and I am totally loving it! Macy's here I come~ more proof that you can never count someone out :)

The Bridal Studio is always on the cutting edge of this and this week is no except they have not 1 but 2 fabulous events going on. I mentioned Brideface's Open House earlier this week and below is some details about a great event happening tomorrow - Blossoms & Bon Bons with one of my favorite florists, Courtenay Lambert!

So if you don't have any plans tomorrow evening shoot on down to the Bridal Studio and take part in some chocolates and flowers - seriously with events like this who needs a man?

The Journey of an Invite

A lot goes into creating a custom invitation. I thought I would share our most recent journey with bride ML and the oh-so-fabulous Blustery Day Designs. ML wanted a modern vintage and graphic design. Colors began as blue, silver and pink - as shown in this post. Like so many other brides she saw the vision in her head but couldn't quite articulate it. We began the process in November and finalized the invite set today! With the event coming up at the end of March BD is hard at work getting them printed! Mad crazy props and thanks to the girls - you all rock!

OK here's invite option 1 -

Loved the designs but didn't feel quite right. A little too girly for the couple.

Round 2...
I personally L.O.V.E this invite! However, ML's fiance said it looked like a Japanese themed wedding. We thought about re-designing the event to match but thought it would be too much work ;) I'd love for someone to use this design!

#3 looking for a more graphic-vintage feel..Almost there but something was off...

Try 4. ThisClose! Love the graphic and the color. Now we just need to decide on the orientation of the graphic......A little flip here and a little resizing of the actual invite....and TA-DA! The final invitation set! {Our favorite option - something Rick and I actually agreed on!}

So as you can see, an invitation takes lots of twists and turns before it is even sent to the printer! As always, I'm entirely grateful for the amazing vendors we work with. Vanessa and Jessica with BD are always great and I love when I hear another TC client has enlisted their services.
Thanks ML for letting me share your journey with our readers! Muah!

Invitations really do set the tone of your event - something I said 3 years ago when planning my own wedding. Rick thought I was nuts...thankfully he's come around and now whole-heartedly agrees with me. My advice, take your time and don't settle! You do not have to order from some online bulk store to find a reasonably priced custom invitation set! There are tons of options out there you've just got to be patient and find them!

Meet The Vendors: Pictures by Tracy

Introducing Tracy with Pictures by Tracy..

Name: Tracy Abston

Location: Dayton

Company Name: Pictures by Tracy {Blog}

Type of Vendor: Photographer

Number of Years in Business: 6+
How did you get started in the wedding industry? I sort of fell into wedding work. A friend asked me to shoot her daughters wedding. I did and I was hooked...and still today I'm loving every second of it.
How did you pick your company name? It was simple....I wanted my name in my logo and wanted it to be easy to remember

If you had to start over what one thing would you do differently? That's a hard question, everything fell into place at the right time in my life. The one thing that I have learned over the last few years is that I cannot specialize in everything. I've learned to say no. It may be difficult, but I owe it to myself & my clients. I turn down jobs that don't fit with my style, and I do not overbook ...both very important and something I've learned over time.

What is your company philosophy? My style is artistic, and truthful. I treat every client like my closest friend. Having a relationship and a connection with my clients has been key and with this I'm able to shoot very relaxed & real photos of my couples.
What's one thing you want clients/vendors to know most about your services? First and foremost I completely adore what I do . Your wedding day is incredibly important, while your memories will hold all of the sights, sounds, and smells that fill that special day, it's my job to capture your memories - to tell the story of one of the most special days in your life. I take that responsibility very seriously.
Do you have any hidden talents or favorite hobbies? I was a florial designer. I love to interior design, hair and makeup.

What are your three favorite blogs besides The Tres Chic Bride? Just to name a few.... Delightful Blogs, Blush Events, Etsy, Southern Weddings Magazine, Don't Box Us In, TM Photography, Decor 8, and Photo.net

{Love this one!}

If you follow the blog you'll remember TC clients Liz & Diggs - we (me and CLF) surprised the couple with the cotton candy bar. Tracy caught me and Liz having a having a moment ;) See more of their wedding here.

Here's a better picture of it:
Thanks Tracy! We love working with you an can't wait to have the opportunity to do so again soon! Check back next week to meet our next fabulous vendor!

Wedding Trend: Silhouettes

Since we worked on Lauren and Andy's wedding last summer I have been kind of obsessed with silhouettes. I think they are such a fun, elegant motif to incorporate throughout a wedding. Whether you incorporate them on your paper elements, (invitation, coasters, place cards, cocktail napkins or programs) or with a wall hangings displayed at the wedding with a really thick ribbon. It is a look that is modern, elegant and timeless but fun and funky all at the same time. A combination I often hear from our clients as they describe the feeling of their ideal wedding.

Silhouettes don't have to be made only by the old-fashioned way either. Instead of cutting images from paper, silhouettes now can be done digitally from one of your photos. Order a high res pdf for your own printing or a gorgeous 8x10 on archival paper. Companies like Simply Silhouettes let you do this easily.

You can even take it a step further and hire a silhouette artist to create custom pieces for your guests. What a special keepsake that will always bring memories of your wedding. That's a favor I would really appreciate! Love it!

Here's some more inspiration...
