Travel Deals

I need a vacation...

I have been searching for a trip for several weeks now. We knew we wanted to go to the Caribbean, stay in a nice all inclusive resort for at least 4 nights. So I've been scouring the internet trying to find something in our budget. Well I wasn't having much luck so I thought I would speak with a travel agent. When I gave them (I spoke with 3) my budget they told me there was no way I could get everything I wanted for under 2k. While that's not a bad price I thought I could still find something in my budget.

Well I searched and searched and finally found a brand new resort, all inclusive for 5 nights for 1500. In your face TA's!! So I thought I would share my little story to encourage you to keep looking even when you feel discouraged. And to share my deal in case anyone else is looking for a good price on a vacation.

I got our package through www.cheapcaribbean.com. Don't forget to do a google search for additional coupons - I got an additional $200 off that way. I'm so excited!! You can see pics of the resort here. If anyone is on the knot share this in case anyone else is on a budget and needs some direction. And if you need some help we can always add a personal honeymoon agent as an a la carte item :)

So everyone mark December 5-10 as me being out of the office and on the beach in Jamaica! Happy Birthday to me!

Who would have thought that baby's breath could be so beautiful? A cost-saving alternative for  a budget conscience bride.

A Preppy Wedding

Quote TC bride MJ  "Since I'm going with navy/hot pink, I think my theme is preppy chic...what do you think?"

OMG are you kidding me?! I am preppy chic! The love abounds.... :) So I've been so excited that I googled, knotted and searched all things preppy. Here's what I've found thus far.

If you see any other ones out there in cyberspace leave the link the comment section - I would love to see more!

My Damask Wedding

*Sigh* I.Love.Damask.

and no other centerpiece captured my heart like the lamps below. I am so in love. I found these by way of the amazing photographer Jessica Claire. Doesn't it just make our heart skip a beat? I digress, aside from the fabulous damask print, these pictures do make another style point- you like tall centerpieces but not the flowers? Here's another option for you - and I bet none of your guests have ever seen this before!

And just for good measure....

The Green Kangeroo

While browsing for some wedding ideas today I stumbles upon this invitation site - The Green Kangaroo and I must say I LOVE it! I'm already a sucker for great paper but their designs are fresh and inspiring. The added bonus - if your on a budget it's a great place to get design ideas!

For this specific event (check it out on their blog) they took one central theme (dots) and tied it throughout the entire wedding. This connects all your details together thus making all of your single elements one cohesive and ascetically pleasing design.

Also check out their 'by theme' link - there's a whole lot of dots, black & white, pink & green goodness just waiting to be unveiled :)

P.S. Here's the new take on the ever so popular pocketfold invitation. Literally one pocket with everything enclosed. Love it.

An Inviting Weekend

Rick and I love making invitations. It all started with our nephew's first birthday in 2006 (above). Since then we have not bought a single invitation. There's just something about putting your heart into making something highlighting such special events.

September is a pretty busy month - between weddings we have Trey's 3rd Birthday (how can he be turning 3 already?!) and my bestest friends' baby shower. So Rick and I spent the weekend how any other married couple does - making invitations!

Thought I would share some of our creations. Enjoy :)

How appropriate is this for a 3 year old?!

Jess's shower invite - yes we love the bengals!

My sister's baby shower

My niece's 1st Bday invite - we did a black pocketfold with a direction and RSVP card. We finished it off by putting a pink gem in HK's bow and a pink and white polka dot belly band. They were adorable.

NWR

ok ok...so this has nothing to do with anything remotely wedding related. But I have to share. Have I meantioned how blessed I am to have careers that make me so happy? Below is a video of one of my students during Free Friday (3rd friday of summer months CMC is free from 4-8!) as the owl promoting the "wise about eyes" exhibit. I laughed until I cried. Good times :)

Yes I'm aware it's sideways....blame it on the camera.

Guest Books

I believe that guest books are a necessary evil. Of course you want to be able to remember everyone that shared in your special day but sometimes I think they are so...well....boring.

So here are a few ideas to put a new twist on an old tradition.

Who doesn't love the look of a historic scroll? Ok maybe I'm partial due to my love of history but a scroll just screams *important* which of course, your wedding is. Add a frame and hang it on the wall. Instant class.

Make a quilt! Have individual squares for your quests to write messages on and then sew them together. This guest book is sure to become a family heirloom!

Use your e-pics to make a personalized book. You can also use your favorite hardcover book - if you love your dog make it a puggle book, or one about your destination wedding city or how about your honeymoon location?! The possibilities are endless.

The Lovely Martha Stewart:

I LOVE this idea...

Engraving:

Wow!! How fabulous is this? All you need is a crystal bowl and a crystal etching pen from Lowes. Now that's a guest book I would proudly display in my home!

Pens can fade over time - engraving lasts a lifetime

Gone Camping....

I'm off to camp with 40 13-18 year olds....be back Thursday evening. Unfortunately I don't think Hocking Hills is as technologically advanced as the park above so I won't have access to my email. I'll hit you back when I return.

Oh good news! Our phones are working again! Yippeee! Talk soon!
